Ajax's Eredivisie collapse has been dramatic(Image: Getty Images)
Jordan Henderson's dream of leading Ajax to the Eredivisie title could become his worst nightmare after the Amsterdam club suffered a spectacular meltdown.
Ajax have picked up just two points from their last three games and now go into the final match of the campaign needing to beat FC Twente and hoping that new leaders PSV Eindhoven fail to pick up three points at Sparta Rotterdam.
The add another twist to a tale that has seen Henderson’s team blow a nine-point lead with the trophy seemingly in their grasp, Sparta are managed by Maurice Steijn, the coach that Ajax sacked last season.
And Steijn’s son, Sem, will be leading the Twente attack in the hope that he can add to his 23-goal tally for the season as he closes in on the Eredivisie’s Golden Boot.
It has all the ingredients for a final day of high drama - and league bosses have now had a second championship trophy manufactured to make sure all the bases are covered.
Henderson, 34, has been recalled to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel after missing out on the Euros last summer and is expected to be selected for the World Cup qualifier against Andorra next month.
He will captain Ajax in front of a sell-out 50,000 crowd at the Johan Cruyff Arena just days after they conceded an equaliser in the ninth minute of injury time in a 2-2 draw with mid-table Groningen to hand the initiative to PSV.

Their nightmare run began with a 4-0 defeat at Utrecht last month - Ajax’s heaviest defeat at the hands of that club since the Eredivisie began in 1953.
They were then held 1-1 at home by Sparta before suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of NEC Nijmegen in front of their own fans.
