Eddie Howe has been looking into Jorgen Strand Larsen’s past as Newcastle weigh up an approach to sign the striker from Wolves.
Newcastle are in need of new additions in attack with Alexander Isak demanding a move away from Tyneside amid interest from Liverpool.
Yoane Wissa looks to be closing in on St James’ Park switch from Brentford, but under-pressure boss Howe also wants another forward to bolster his ranks after Callum Wilson recently left the club at the end of his contract.
The Magpies have been targeting Wolves’ Strand Larsen, who scored 14 goals in 34 Premier League appearances in last season after he had joined on loan from Celta Vigo.
Newcastle have now opened talks with Wolves over a move for Strand Larsen after he impressed against Man City in their first game of the new campaign, and a new development has emerged in the Tyneside club’s pursuit of his services.

The 25-year-old Norwegian international made his name as a professional at Sarpsborg 08 in his home country before impressing at Eredivisie side Groningen between 2020 and 2022 prior to a move to Celta.
Strand Larsen only joined Wolves permanently in July after the option to buy in his loan deal was met [Wolves], but a move away from Molineux now looks likely with the Magpies doing their due diligence before they make a concrete approach for his services.

According to a new report from talkSPORT (19 August), Newcastle boss Howe has “spoken to at least one of the Norwegian’s former coaches” as he aims to further understand his character prior to a potential move.

Newcastle have struggled throughout the transfer window to land a number of their top targets, especially up-front, after previous links to Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
Strand Larsen was obviously not their first-choice to bolster Howe’s forward line, but he would be a decent capture given his recent exploits in the Premier League and potential to improve even further at 25-years-old.
If Howe is serious about signing him soon, then he is absolutely right to look into his background and character, as he will want to avoid anything similar to the club’s current standoff with wantaway star Isak.

The Swede is refusing to train or play for the Magpies right now as he forces a move to Anfield, despite The i reporting prior to his St James’ Park rebellion that Newcastle chiefs believed such a thing wasn’t in his nature, as he is known to be a relaxed and laidback character.
Howe will want to know everything about Strand Larsen and his personality before the club spend big money to bring him in, as they have to avoid another Isak situation while they aim to stay among the top clubs in the Premier League in years to come.
