Joris Gnagnon has apologised for the "heinous" challenge on Yasser Larouci which led to the Sevilla defender being sent off during the 2-1 pre-season win over Liverpool.

Virgil van Dijk let Gnagnon know what he thought of his actions at full-time, and the 22-year-old took to Twitter soon after the game to make a public apology to Liverpool, Larouci and the club's fans.

Gnagnon was shown a straight red card for a horror tackle on Larouci, chasing the Liverpool youngster before wildly lunging and kicking him up in the air.

Thankfully for Larouci and Liverpool, Klopp said following the game that it intially appears as though the 18-year-old was "lucky" and avoided a serious injury, though a further assessment will reveal the full extent of the damage.

Larouci was stretchered off the field of play, leaving Jurgen Klopp furious.

That’s the situation.” Regarding Larouci's early diagnosis, the coach added: "[Gnagnon] hit him full throttle and, in that moment, [if it was] a little bit different position where he hit him then it’s done.

"I would like to publicly apologise to Liverpool, the family of the player and the supporters," he wrote.
