Ryan Kent once looked as though he was going to be Liverpool's next big star, having joined the club's academy at seven years old, progressing his way through the ranks to make his senior debut against Exeter City in January 2016 during a third round FA Cup tie.
The Oldham born player had several loan spells, including Coventry City, Barnsley and Bundesliga side Freiburg before a breakthrough campaign under Steven Gerrard at Rangers in the 2018/19 season.
He went on to score six goals in 40 appearances for the Scottish team, creating the only goal in Rangers’ first win against Celtic in six years at the Ibrox Stadium.

Although he won the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year Award at the end of that season, it wasn’t enough to get a look in with Liverpool’s first team, and so he returned to Rangers on a permanent deal on the final day of the 2019 summer transfer window.
Despite a successful few seasons in Scotland, part of a side that won the title for the first time in 10 years and reached the Europa League final the following year, Kent’s contract was expiring in the summer of 2023 and he was not offered a new deal.
He signed for Turkish club Fenerbahce but after falling out with coach Ismail Kartal, he was forced to train alone.

Kent managed just 10 starts, scoring one goal which was on his full debut, and continued to be separated after Jose Mourinho’s arrival at the club.
Towards the end of 2024, his contract at Fenerbahce was cancelled by mutual consent, and it was time for him to move elsewhere.
The now 28-year-old was linked to a series of clubs in the UK and Europe, with some Rangers fans hoping he would return once again to Scotland, but it seemed likely that he would stay abroad.
He was even rumoured to be joining Iranian club Persepolis, managed by his former coach Kartal, but not for the club’s attractiveness.
The Tehran Times reported that Kent was open to the move because he had pet crocodiles in Turkey that he wanted to bring with him, and it is legal to keep crocodiles at home in Iran.
However, the move never happened and in April 2025, he agreed to sign for MLS side Seattle Sounders for the season, with an option to extend for 2026.

Kent has made 10 appearances so far, five of which he has made the XI, but there is a big test coming up with Seattle Sounders’ participation in the Club World Cup in the middle of the MLS season.
The USA side face Botafoga in their opening fixture in the early hours of Monday morning.
They are then set to face Atletico Madrid on June 19 and Champions League winners PSG on June 23, two huge games for the American side, but what impact will the former Red have?
