Jose Mourinho has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur man Heung-min Son, whom he managed during his stint at the North London club between 2019 and 2021.

In truth, it was hardly the highlight of his glittering managerial career, having been sacked just before the 2021 Carabao Cup final against Manchester City and failing to win a trophy in his time in North London.

However, he recently made some interesting claims about star Tottenham man Heung-Min Son, who is now the face of the club after Harry Kane left in the summer.

Widely regarded as one of the best Premier League players currently and one of the best Asian players of all time, he has not managed to acquire any silverware whilst at Tottenham Hotspur.

Many feel that the South Korean’s talents are wasted in North London, with Mourinho echoing these sentiments.

What did Jose Mourinho say about Heung-min Son and Liverpool?

Speaking to EA Sports FC, the acclaimed manager heaped praise on the South Korean skipper while suggesting his talents and efforts are wasted at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium:

“I don’t look at Son as a Korean player.

I look at Son as one of the best players in the world.”

“Maybe Tottenham supporters aren’t going to be happy with what I’m going to say, it’s not disrespectful.”

“He could win titles, he could play for the best teams.

He could be playing in England for Man City, for Liverpool, for Chelsea.

It could be abroad playing for one of the top teams.

“He has that modern mobility of the attacking players.

He can play through the middle, from the sides, wide to coming inside.”

Liverpool were tentatively linked with the 31-year-old after Sadio Mane departed the club in 2022.

In truth, the Reds have not really replaced the Senegal international, and Son definitely would have gone a long way in full his boots.

Back in 2021, Jurgen Klopp confessed that it was his ‘biggest mistake’ not signing Son:

“One of the biggest mistakes in my life is not signing Son Heung-min,” the German admitted to Korean outlet KBS News in November 2021 (via the Mirror)

“Outstanding player?

He is fantastic, a sign of Korean football and one of the best strikers in the world.”

Perhaps in another life, Heung-Min Son would have become a Liverpool legend winning everything for the club – like so many players under Jurgen Klopp has.

Son has 17 Premier League goals this season, 11 more than Luis Diaz and six more than Darwin Nunez.
