Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo and co-owner Evangelos Marinakis are set for talks over the former’s future in charge as Jose Mourinho’s chances of taking over have emerged.

Nuno Espirito Santo has done a stellar job in charge of Nottingham Forest, taking the club from Premier League relegation candidates to qualifying for European competitions.

Many would think that his future would not be up in the air as a result, but Nuno recently fuelled rumours of a potential exit by saying that his relationship with Marinakis is “not the same” as before, and admitting that “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” in response to reports over his position as boss being uncertain.

Former scout Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider on Tuesday (26 August) that Nottingham Forest are now considering sacking Nuno Espirito Santo following public bust-ups with both Marinakis and global head of football Edu Gaspar.

Brown also told Football Insider on Thursday (28 August) that Jose Mourinho would be open to becoming Nottingham Forest’s manager, after he was sacked by Fenerbahce, yet it seems like the Reds’ chiefs have other ideas.

The Sun (29 August) have revealed that Forest have “no interest” in handing Mourinho the reigns at the City Ground right now, and they state that Nuno is not set to leave his post soon.

Marinakis has said he is set to meet with Nuno for talks over the weekend, with the Greek businessman believing that he is the right man to lead the club forward this season.

Forest’s progression under Nuno has been second-to-none, with the Portuguese boss taking his side from battling against the drop to nearly making the Champions League last season.

Many supporters of the City Ground outfit would have not even dared dream of that kind of upturn in fortunes in such a short space of time, yet the man overseeing it is somehow having to worry about his job being taken from him.

There is a sense, somewhat, that he is trying to upset the apple cart in order to get more signings over the line between now and the deadline, but the Tricky Trees have done some good business this summer and look pretty well-stacked across the pitch.

It should come as a major relief to all connected to the club to learn that he looks set to stay for the foreseeable future, but Marinakis is clearly a livewire, and so they can still effectively expect anything to happen at any time as long as he is overseeing the club’s operations.
