Leeds United have emerged as contenders in the race to sign Josh Brownhill and are prepared to rival West Ham and Celtic in their interest.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 29-year-old would be the “ideal” signing for Daniel Farke’s side.

The boss is keen to add more Premier League experience to his squad after completing the bulk of their business with seven first-team additions so far.

Football Insider revealed on 3 August that West Ham are leading the race for Brownhill and are confident of getting a deal for the free agent over the line.

The midfielder is believed to be keen to play Premier League football next season given the wages on offer and opportunity to play at the highest level.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 2 August that Celtic want to sign Brownhill and hope Champions League football can give them the edge over their rivals.

This article contains exclusive comment from Mick Brown, a football transfer expert and former chief scout for Man United and Sunderland among others.

Brown told Football Insider in June that West Ham are confident of signing Brownhill and are closing in on a move after making contact with his representatives.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that Leeds are pushing to beat their rivals to the midfielder’s signature.

“From what I hear.

Josh Brownhill is on Leeds’ radar,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s exactly the sort of player I think they need at the moment, the type of player the manager wants.

“They want to add Premier League experience to the team and Brownhill has plenty of that.

“He’s better than you think as well, it’s no surprise that he’s consistently been one of Burnley’s best players while he’s been there, particularly last season.

“I’ve watched him play loads of times, and he’s the type of player where if you sit and watch him specifically, you notice he never puts a foot wrong.

“I think he’s top-class and Leeds could do far worse than signing him.

“They’ve done a lot of business this summer, but they lack that Premier League experience for me.

“I think if they were to go for Brownhill they’d be confident they could get it done, and I expect them to make a move because he has been on their radar.

“They’re not the only interested club, I think we’ve mentioned West Ham before, but if Leeds want him I see no reason why they can’t get it done.”

Brownhill is not the only midfielder on Leeds’ radar this summer, as they continue to show an interest in a sensational reunion with Man City’s Kalvin Phillips.

Football Insider revealed on 3 August that Man City are prepared to take a hit by allowing Phillips to leave on a cut-price deal before the transfer window closes.

While there has been a lack of interest in his signature so far this summer, he has no place in Pep Guardiola’s squad and they remain keen to sell him.

Brown told Football Insider on 29 July that Phillips wants to return to Leeds in an attempt to revive his stalling career in a place where he feels most comfortable.
