Liverpool Scouted Koulierakis Amid Transfer Rumours
Liverpool have shown strong interest in Konstantinos Koulierakis, the 21-year-old centre-back currently playing for Wolfsburg. The Reds, led by sporting director Richard Hughes, have prioritized acquiring a young defender with potential for growth, and Koulierakis fits this profile perfectly.
Koulierakis joined Wolfsburg from PAOK Saloniki last summer and has quickly impressed with his defensive and offensive contributions. He has played 14 times for the Greece national team and was praised by his former academy coach Alexiadis Alexandros, who described him as "unstoppable" since his position change at the U17 level.
His performances include winning 63% of defensive duels, and he ranks among the top 4% of centre-backs in Europe's top five leagues for assists per 90 minutes, showcasing his threat going forward. This balanced skill set has led to his nomination for the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award in February 2025.
With uncertainty surrounding the future of Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, who may leave at the end of the season, the club is actively seeking defensive reinforcements. Koulierakis is considered a viable long-term successor, offering time to learn from Van Dijk if signed.
Despite Wolfsburg’s interest in keeping the player—valued at around €40m-€50m—they are open to transfer offers. Liverpool faces competition for Koulierakis from other Premier League clubs like Crystal Palace and Aston Villa, as well as European giants such as AC Milan and Real Madrid.
