Liverpool’s transfer window has been filled with plenty of noise, with a focus on signings like Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez.
However, there’s also growing concern over key players whose contracts are ticking down.
One of the biggest concerns for Liverpool fans is Ibrahima Konate, whose contract situation is becoming a crucial issue.
The French defender has been instrumental in Liverpool’s defence, and with some big clubs rumoured to be interested in him, the Reds need to act quickly to avoid losing another player on a free transfer.
Liverpool has learned the hard way from their past mistakes, like the Trent Alexander-Arnold situation.
With his contract set to expire in a year, fans are understandably anxious.
The club can’t afford to let this become a repeat scenario.
So, what are they doing about it?
According to Liverpool ECHO journalist Paul Gorst, Liverpool will take a calculated approach when it comes to Konate’s contract.
Gorst shared his insights on the Redmen TV Podcast, stating that despite rumours linking the player with Real Madrid, Konate is expected to stay at Anfield.
“Konate I still expect, I don’t think he’ll leave this summer, I think Liverpool will look to take a little bit of a Van Dijk, Salah chance on tying him down during the season,” Gorst said.
He explained that Konate seems happy and settled at Liverpool, citing a conversation after the Crystal Palace game, which marked Konate’s 25th or 26th birthday.
“He was speaking… and he was saying that talks had stepped up the previous week.”
“He seemed quite positive over the developments there, so you know, let’s wait and see what happens.”
Gorst also emphasized that he didn’t foresee Konate being sold this summer.
The journalist’s comments offer reassurance to Liverpool fans, suggesting that the club is making progress in contract discussions and that they won’t be caught off guard again.
The Reds’ defense, led by Konate and Virgil van Dijk, has been rock-solid, and it’s clear Liverpool must act now to secure the Frenchman’s future.
