Liverpool are set to complete the sale of Luis Diaz after reaching an agreement with Bayern Munich.
The Reds had publicly been keen to keep hold of Diaz this summer, but have now decided to move him on.
According to multiple reports, Liverpool will bank a £65.5m fee for Diaz, which represents an excellent profit on what they paid for him in 2022.
Three-and-a-half years ago, Liverpool were reported to have paid Porto an initial fee of £37.5m for the Colombian.
However, the price was said to include a further £12.5m in add-ons, taking the total package to £50m.
But while that would mean Liverpool now claim a profit on Diaz in any case, journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that thanks to a little bit of impudence from former sporting director Julian Ward, the Reds are set to bank more than initially thought.

Back in January 2022, the £37.5m spent on Diaz represented a good fee all round.
The then 25-year-old was in brilliant form, but was still something of an unknown at the top level.
Had the fee reached £50m, it would have obviously been a much more significant outlay for Liverpool.

But according to Jacobs, the Reds never ended up paying that total for Diaz.
“Diaz has agreed terms with Bayern on a four-year contract,” he reports.
“Liverpool paid Porto €45m plus add?ons.
Understand only €4m of those have been triggered, bringing his total cost to €49m.”

This means Liverpool ended up spending around £42.8m on Diaz and, according to Jacobs, the almost £23m profit they will claim from Bayern will not be owed to Porto, or anyone else.
“There is no sell-on to Porto either,” he says.
“Julian Ward refused to grant one at the time.”
Taking everything into account, including the fee paid for him, fee received for his sale and his output while at Liverpool, Diaz has to go down as a big success at Anfield.

Not everything went smoothly, and it is hard not to think how good he could have been had it not been for a problematic knee injury in late 2022.
But on the whole, Diaz can leave Liverpool with his head held high.
For £43m he was a relative bargain, gave his best years to the club and will leave a Premier League winner while handing Liverpool a healthy profit.
All things told, it would be unfair to rate Diaz’s Liverpool career in totality as anything lower than an eight out of ten.
