A new update regarding the negotiation between Liverpool and Napoli for Darwin Nunez has been provided.

It is looking increasingly likely that Darwin Nunez has played his last game for Liverpool.

The 26-year-old forward, who joined Liverpool as their club record signing for £85 million in 2022, experienced a challenging 2024-25 season and found himself increasingly sidelined.

Over the course of 46 appearances in all competitions, he managed just seven goals and seven assists – a return widely viewed as insufficient for a player expected to lead Liverpool’s attack.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot did show great trust in the Uruguayan in the second half of the campaign, preferring to play Luis Diaz as a false nine rather than start the 26-year-old.

Speculation continues to mount regarding the Uruguayan’s next destination?

Atletico Madrid has emerged as a plausible candidate, although the Spanish club may not be prepared to meet Liverpool’s valuation.

Current Serie A  champions Napoli have emerged as the leading candidates for Nunez’s signature.

According to several reports, Antonio Conte’s side have made contact with Nunez and the player himself has given his green light on the move.

Reliable football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed when Napoli will contact Liverpool over signing the player.

What remains now is for Liverpool and the Italian team to agree on the terms of the deal, and Nunez will become a new Napoli player.

Several figures have been quoted as being the amount Liverpool wants in order to sanction the deal.

Journalist Gerardo Fasano revealed that  Napoli and Liverpool had agreed a deal worth €45 million plus five in bonuses.

However, a new report from Alfredo Pedulla via CaughtOffside has provided a slightly different slant to the story.

According to the journalist, while Napoli is keen on Nunez, there is yet to be a breakthrough in negotiations for the player, given that both Napoli and Liverpool are €8m apart in their valuation of the 26-year-old.

“My understanding is that Napoli hope to pay something in the region of €40-42m for the former Benfica man, but Liverpool are seeking an additional €8m in both a fixed fee and in incentives and bonuses,” the journalist wrote.

“For now, there has not been a formal meeting, as the clubs have not yet felt a need for a summit, but initial contacts have been non-stop in the last few days,” he added, before revealing that despite the current situation, both clubs will find a common ground for the deal to happen.

“Napoli will no doubt hope to reach a compromise with Liverpool soon, but it is not yet clear how much the Reds will be willing to lower their demands.”
