Liverpool have been chasing Alexander Isak for several weeks, with the club making an official offer within the last week for the Newcastle United striker.
This bid was rejected by Newcastle, with the club hopeful of securing a better deal from the Reds to lure away their prized asset.
Isak was impressive for Newcastle last season; however, he has been a shining light in their squad since he joined from Real Sociedad.
While Liverpool have had Mohamed Salah to score goals at a consistent rate for them since he joined from Roma, the Egyptian international is starting to push on with age, and he seemed to adopt a new role last year, offering to create more than he had previously done.

This has led to Liverpool looking for a striker who can be as consistent as Salah in front of goal and ease his burden to carry the team in that department; enter Isak.
While Newcastle don’t want to sell, Liverpool may have got some good news on that front now, and in their pursuit of the Swedish international.
Liverpool never looked like signing Isak from Newcastle unless Eddie Howe’s side managed to replace the outgoing Swede with another striker before agreeing a deal with the Reds.
This would seem true, despite Newcastle not being forthcoming in wanting to sell their striker to a Premier League rival, as they look like they may reluctantly accept an offer from Liverpool.

This is how Alex Crook of TalkSport is reporting the ongoing transfer story, as he explained on the morning show that this seems to be how the transfer will play out moving forward.
He said: “I’m reporting this morning that Newcastle reluctantly would then be willing to cash in on Alexander Isak, assuming they can agree on a deal with Liverpool.
So good news, I guess, in one respect, that at Newcastle, they are confident of signing Sesko.
“I think Alexander Isak has made his stance pretty clear.
This is not a situation that has only really been rumbling in the last few weeks.
“I would suggest this is a situation that has been in the offing since this time last year when Newcastle reneged on a promise to give Alexander Isak a new contract.
“He’s made it clear in subsequent talks that he wants £300,000 a week to even contemplate staying at Newcastle.”
Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew seemed to confirm that Liverpool will get Isak following this deal for the Magpies, as they look to bring in Sesko and Yoane Wissa.

Pardew joked to Alex Crook on the same segment of the TalkSport show about how it was surprising that if you add the deals for Sesko and Wissa together, you get the fee Liverpool are offering for Isak.
He said: “If you put them two deals together, it comes out to a very similar figure to the Isak deal.”
It seems to point to Newcastle doing their business before confirming they have accepted a bid for Isak so they don’t overpay in their pursuit of a replacement or several new recruits.
