Liverpool have shown their willingness to break the club-transfer record for the second time this summer and sign Alexander Isak.

Newcastle United rejected a £110 million offer from the Reds for Isak, with the Swede doing his part to force the move by going AWOL from training – Isak has now reported for duty with the Magpies.

It has long been reported that the Newcastle forward would be the dream addition for Arne Slot, the crown jewel of what will be a new-look attack at Anfield this season.

According to David Ornstein, Liverpool have agreed a £46m deal to sell Darwin Nunez to Al-Hilal, ending his three-year stay on Merseyside.

Nevertheless, it appears the Isak saga will continue to drag on until the final days of the summer transfer window as Liverpool are forced to wait patiently for the dominoes to fall into place.

Graeme Bailey exclusively told Rousing The Kop that Liverpool will return for Isak despite the swift rejection of the opening bid and contrary to other reports.

Liverpool journalist David Lynch is of the opinion that the Reds will not return for a blind offer for Isak but instead, wait for Newcastle to signal their intent to sell.

“I mentioned in my last video that Liverpool’s position was that after they had that £110m bid rejected by Newcastle, that they would not bid again,” Lynch said on his YouTube channel.

“They’re still in a similar position with that.

That’s very much their stance, I will put it like that, they’re not going to go back in such was the response to that initial bid, but it’s important to say that what changes that situation would be some encouragement from Newcastle, and Liverpool are still awaiting that encouragement.”

The Magpies will not do business with Liverpool until a new centre forward is through the door at St James’ Park, and rightfully so, but with Newcastle believing Benjamin Sesko is off to Manchester United, another setback for Eddie Howe is also a setback for Slot.

Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Bryan Mbeumo, and now Sesko joins the list of names opting against a move to Newcastle.

The Reds also thwarted their Premier League rivals to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, which in turn leaves Isak waiting in the lurch for Howe to find a suitable replacement.

Ekitike enjoyed a stellar Anfield debut, signalling to the club’s hierarchy that perhaps waiting for Isak is not in Liverpool’s best interests.

Of course, Isak leading the line at Anfield would propel an already star-studded squad into immediate favourites for all competitions this season.

However, the friendlies against Athletic Bilbao highlighted the serious lack of reinforcements at centre-back – going into the upcoming campaign short in defence is a story that the supporters know all too well.

Liverpool are monitoring Brentford’s Nathan Collins, and at this moment in time, prioritising a new centre-back must take precedence over Isak, at least until Newcastle indicate they are ready to sell.
