For now though, the top candidate to take over continues to be Sporting’s Ruben Amorim.

There were renewed claims over the week that Liverpool have offered Amorim a three-year contract to take charge at Anfield.

But for the moment at least, nothing official has emerged.

Throughout the whole Amorim saga so far, Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda has been keeping Reds fans informed.

And the reporter has provided an interesting new update on Saturday morning.

Sepulveda had previously claimed that Sporting’s derby win over Benfica two weeks ago could have sped up Amorim’s negotiations with Liverpool.

With his team on the verge of a second title in four years, the 39-year-old was seemingly ready to make a move away from Lisbon.

However, O Jogo threw doubt over those suggestions yesterday, reporting that Sporting president Frederico Varandas still believed that Amorim could stay for next season.

Taking to X, Sepulveda has now addressed those claims, saying that there is actually ‘no chance’ that Varandas won’t lose his manager.

“Frederico Varandas, President of Sporting CP wants to keep Ruben Amorim at Sporting, as reported by O Jogo but there is no chance,” says the journalist.

“Amorim will leave Sporting at the end of the season.

Amorim is number’s 1 target of LFC and he likes the project.”

Just because Amorim is looking to leave Sporting, it does not mean that he’s guaranteed to end up at Liverpool, even if he is first choice for FSG.

There are a couple of big jobs set to be available this summer.

The Blues could still decide to make a change from Mauricio Pochettino and it’s been reported that Amorim would be in their thinking.

However, Liverpool do look to be leading this race for now.
