Liverpool are not afraid to upset some people this summer as they continue to be bold in the transfer window.

The Reds have been so successful on the pitch in recent years due to the work that has been done off it, with everyone behind the scenes ensuring the club is sustainable long term.

‘Balancing the books’ is a term that most clubs are being associated with this summer and Liverpool are no exception, although they have a bigger job than most as their expenditure could be at around £186m after just three players.

This leaves many players at the club with uncertain futures as they look to raise as much money as possible, although there is a threat of losing stars at a cut-price.

Andy Robertson is wanted by Atletico Madrid and is just one player who could leave for very little, with the Spanish club even attempting to get him for free, as the Scotsman has just one year left on his Anfield deal.

Whether a move materialises is yet to be seen, although the most recent update suggests the timeline in which this transfer has to progress.

The Scotsman has been at the club since 2017 and has been one of the Reds’ most loyal servants during that time, while also being one of their best bargain buys.

However, now 31, Milos Kerkez’s arrival has put his future in doubt and it is no surprise to see him potentially move on, although Madrid being his destination has been a shock.

MORE LIVERPOOL STORIES

Journalist Lewis Steele has provided the most recent update on Robertson’s story, however, and it appears as if Atletico are confident over striking a deal.

“The big conundrum that should be solved over the coming week is Andy Robertson,” Steele posting on his X account.

“Noises from Madrid yesterday were that Atletico were confident he would sign for them but told nothing done, he’s still making his mind up, definitely no club-to-club agreement.”

It is shaping up to be a big week ahead for Liverpool with some big stars arriving, but it looks like it could also be a period where they say farewell to a club legend.

Robertson was signed from Hull City in 2017 for just an initial fee of just £8m, a quite staggering figure given what he has gone on to achieve.

He has racked up 342 appearances for the club during that time, scoring 11 and assisting 67, with the Scotsman registering the second most assists of any defender in Premier League history.

The 31-year-old has won two Premier Leagues, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, two League Cups and the Community Shield – not a bad list by any stretch of the imagination.

The word ‘legend’ does get tossed around too much in the modern game but it is safe to say that many Liverpool fans would not argue against Robertson being one of these for their club.
