After a fast start to the summer window, Liverpool find themselves with just three days in which to get several more deals over the line.

The Reds moved quickly to bring in Jeremie Frimpong, but despite plenty of promise in terms of more additions, nothing further has been sealed.

With the first transfer window of the summer closing on Tuesday, Liverpool are now in a race against time if they want to complete signings at the earliest stage.

At one stage, it appeared a near certainty that the Reds would be able to tie up a deal to sign Florian Wirtz before the June 10th deadline.

However, with Wirtz expected to cost a British record fee, negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen have been painfully slow.

Nevertheless, a breakthrough was seemingly made on Friday night, with Liverpool reportedly submitting a new bid of £113m.

And with an agreement close to being struck, it has been revealed when fans can expect Wirtz to jet in for a medical with the Reds.

It has been a long and tense wait for Liverpool supporters as they wait for their biggest ever signing to get done.

However, the general feeling has remained positive that Wirtz will be a Liverpool player, and that is now closer than ever to happening.

And according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the 22-year-old could now travel for a medical once Germany’s game against France on Sunday has finished.

“The offer that convinced Bayer 04’s : €133M,” Tavolieri reported on Friday evening.

“Now it’s about last details and exchanging last documents.

Wirtz will play his game with Germany and be after that able to join England for medicals.”

There had been concerns that an injury to Wirtz in Sunday’s game could scupper the deal, but while those worries may still linger, it looks like Liverpool will get their man shortly after it.

Although everyone is seemingly preparing for Wirtz’s transfer to get done before the Tuesday deadline, there was no agreement reached between the clubs as of Saturday morning.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool have ‘no intention’ of meeting Leverkusen’s top-end valuation of £126m, so it remains to be seen whether the Bundesliga side will accept that.

For their part, they are said to be keen for Wirtz not to enter the final two years of his contract, so a sale seems in the best wishes of all parties.
