Liverpool are ready to move on to the second part of their Far East tour this summer after playing in Hong Kong on Saturday.

There were plenty of positives to take from the 4-2 defeat against AC Milan, but much for Arne Slot to work on as well.

But while focus was on the performance and what we learned from Liverpool’s loss, there was also plenty of talk about transfers following the game.

Arne Slot left Luis Diaz out of the Liverpool squad, with the Colombian looking likely to join Bayern Munich.

The transfer is not done yet, but Slot’s decision to take Diaz out of the firing line during Saturday’s game spoke volumes.

Of course, parallels can be drawn between Diaz’s actions with Liverpool this summer and those of Reds target Alexander Isak.

Isak reportedly asked not to go on Newcastle’s tour of Singapore, preferring to stay at home while a potential move to Anfield is hashed out.

To Diaz’s credit, he has turned up and been a part of Liverpool’s trip so far.

In fact, there have been reports that Diaz’s attitude has been excellent while awaiting his move.

And that has seemingly extended to the second leg of the tour as well, with journalist Ben Jacobs reporting that the Colombia international is still part of the group as Liverpool travel to Tokyo.

“Understand Luis Diaz is getting close to a move to Bayern and likely for under €80m,” Jacobs reports on X.

“Still some work to be done.

Diaz heading to Tokyo with the rest of the LFC team, but an agreement with Bayern is not far off.”

As Liverpool showed against Milan on Saturday, they could really do with bringing in another forward if Diaz is to leave.

If Darwin Nunez is to follow him out of the door, then the need for Isak – or somebody else – will ramp up once again.

Thankfully, Slot confirmed after the match that Hugo Ekitike is likely to get his Liverpool debut during Wednesday’s game, which will give the Dutchman another option.

It remains to be seen whether Darwin Nunez is involved, with Slot insisting that injury, not an imminent transfer, was the reason for his omission at the weekend.

Whether Diaz is watching on from the sideline will depend on how quickly Bayern and Liverpool are able to agree terms.
