Jordan Henderson’s all-action display for Brentford against Chelsea has been dubbed a “masterclass” by his England team-mates.
Brentford beat several clubs to the veteran midfielder’s signature in the summer following his departure from Ajax after 18 months, where Henderson quickly became captain and returned to the England fold.
Both Rangers and Sunderland were in talks to sign Henderson as he prepared to return to the UK, with the Black Cats seen as clear favourites for their former academy player after promotion to the top-flight.
However, Sunderland missed out to another club clad in red-and-white stripes as Henderson instead signed for Brentford on 15 July, and the 35-year-old is already making his presence felt in West London.

Brentford successfully targetted Henderson in the summer window to fill the void left by their Arsenal-bound captain Christian Norgaard, and he’s been an ever-present in the league for them this season.
Henderson’s performances for both Ajax and Brentford have also seen him become a regular in Thomas Tuchel’s England squads, and his display in the Bees’ 2-2 draw with Chelsea will surely help his cause.
After setting up Kevin Schade’s breakaway opener in the West London Derby as Keith Andrews‘ side sealed point through Fabio Carvalho late on, Henderson took to Instagram with a message on Monday.

Henderson’s message said “London derby under the lights”, and two of his England team-mates reacted, with Jude Bellingham leaving two ‘exhale’ emojis and Morgan Rogers saying “masterclass”.

Football Insider Verdict
Brentford were many people’s early-season tip for relegation after the departures of Norgaard, Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and manager Thomas Frank in the summer, but they’ve held their own so far.
Andrews’ side sit twelfth with four points on the board so far and were convincing against both Aston Villa and Chelsea, with Henderson dictating play at the base of their midfield and providing solidity.
Another player linked with a Premier League return, Conor Gallagher, is seen as most likely to displace Henderson in England’s squad for the World Cup, but it’s no surprise to see why Tuchel has kept faith ahead of next summer’s tournament.
