Julian Alvarez's agent has claimed that Liverpool never made an attempt to sign the Atletico Madrid star during the transfer window.

The Reds were credited with an interest in signing the former Manchester City forward at the start of the summer before turning their attention to other targets.

Liverpool signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth up to £79million.

This was before the Reds eventually completed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a club-record fee worth £125million.

Rumours linking Liverpool with a move for Alvarez soon quietened down once the Reds made a move for Ekitike and Isak back in July.

Now the forward's agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has set the record straight on claims that Arne Slot's side were in for his client.

"There were no official offers from Liverpool to sign Julian last season, and everything that has been said in this regard is false," Hidalgo told Erem News.

Hidalgo continued: "Last summer there were no offers because Atletico de Madrid didn't want to sell the player, so negotiations didn't take place."

Alvarez will not have the opportunity to play against Liverpool when the Reds face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
