Liverpool parting ways with Darwin Nunez to land Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez is a swap deal that would "make a lot of sense" - according to former star Dietmar Hamann.

The Premier League champions have been ambitious and swift with their recruitment so far this summer and have now been urged to go after Atletico Madrid's World Cup winning striker, who only left Manchester City a year ago.

He remains the club's most expensive player ever, at least for now, but has struggled to deliver on his transfer fee over the past three seasons.

Now Hamann has told Wette.de: "I’d love to see Julian Alvarez at Liverpool and I think Darwin Nunez being part of the deal would make a lot of sense.

I think Nunez is tailor made for Atletico Madrid as a physical centre forward, someone who will work so hard which is what Diego Simeone wants.

"Alvarez would also be a fantastic addition at Liverpool, he played in the shadow of Erling Haaland at Manchester City but really added to his reputation in Madrid.

He led the line, scored goals and made life a nuisance for the back lines he played against, I think he would be a brilliant signing.

"There are rumours about other forwards, but Alvarez would be a great addition to Liverpool and Nunez might just be an ever better signing for Atletico."

Alvarez has been a hit in the Premier League previously, impressing during his two years in Manchester.

However the player himself has expressed little desire to leave the Spanish capital.

Atletico club president Enrique Cerezo has also stated: "Julian Alvarez is a player of Atletico de Madrid.
