German national team manager Julian Nagelsmann was asked about Florian Wirtz at his press conference, held shortly after the midfielder reported for duty.

Liverpool have freshly submitted a bid worth up to £109m, hoping that this will be enough to tempt Bayer Leverkusen into a sale.

As reported by The ECHO, this offer has been sent and is comprised of an initial sum and achievable add-ons, the split of which is undetermined as of this point.

While that would be enough to make Wirtz the most expensive player ever signed to Liverpool already, it's thought that Leverkusen are holding out for a £115m total which would match the all-time Premier League record transfer set by Moises Caicedo joining Chelsea in 2023.

The situation has advanced this far already because the 22-year-old has made it clear the Reds are his preferred destination, ignoring interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

This decision was what Nagelsmann was questioned upon.

"I have never told a player; 'Go there or there'," the DFB-Team manager responded - reports Maximilian Koch.

"The important thing is that he plays and that he plays a role of similar significance as he does at Leverkusen."

There was more than enough interest in that subject because the Germany national team have convened at their Herzogenaurach base in the Bavarian region, which is of course also home to Bayern.

In a final statement bound to excite those on the red half of Merseyside, Nagelsmann added: "We know that he is one of the best players in the world."

While this transfer pursuit plays out, Wirtz is amongst the players to report for international duty, as confirmed on social media, ahead of a UEFA Nations League semi-final against Portugal next Wednesday night.

Last week, Nagelsmann had revealed he and Wirtz had been in contact via text messages, while the talent was deciding over his future.

"We exchanged a few messages.

I tried to give him tips to the best of my knowledge and belief, but I told him I can't make the decision for him because my opinion is not necessarily the right one.
