Liverpool and their search for a new manager is starting to drag on a little bit now.

Jurgen Klopp announced his intention to step down as the Liverpool manager in January, with the German set to bid farewell to Anfield at the end of the season.

Plenty of managers have been linked to the Liverpool hotseat, with Ruben Amorim, Roberto De Zerbi and Julian Naglesmann emerging as possible candidates according to The Athletic.

The Sporting CP manager is believed to be the frontrunner at this stage, although he publicly dismissed reports that he had already met with Liverpool representatives.

Xabi Alonso made clear his commitment to Bayer Leverkusen in March as he aims to build on the progress of this campaign next season.

Julian Naglesmann is a manager we have not heard much about regarding a potential move to Liverpool.

Naglesmann is set to guide the host nation Germany in this summer’s European Championships, but his contract expires after the tournament, with no extension signed yet.

While German FA officials are optimistic about retaining him, there’s speculation he may prefer a return to club management.

However, despite his unceremonious sacking halfway through last season, it’s been reported by Sky Germany that ‘advanced talks’ between Naglesmann and Bayern Munich have already taken place.

What did Julian Naglesmann’s agent say?

Speaking on the Spielmacher – Der EM-Talk mit Sebastian Hellmann und 360Media podcast (via Liverpool.com), agent Volker Struth confirmed that talks are proceedings with a number of clubs and not just Bayern:

“It will be decided soon, in the next five, six or seven days.

It would be complete nonsense to say that we are not talking to interested parties,” Struth began.

“Without saying who the interested parties are, I can only say that it is not just Bayern Munich.

Of course we are talking now.”

Could one of those clubs be Liverpool?

Naglesmann’s sacking halfway through the 2022/23 season seemed harsh from a neutral perspective, as he had just guided Bayern to a win against PSG in the Champions League round of 16.

Meanwhile, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen addressed the possibility of Julian Nagelsmann returning to the club after Bayern’s Champions League victory over Arsenal.

Speaking to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Dreesen said:

“We will see?

We have spoken with a few candidates.”
