Liverpool's FSG owners are set to confirm the return of Julian Ward, just a year after he stepped down as sporting director at Anfield.

Ward succeeded Michael Edwards in 2021 but lasted just one season before deciding to leave the club.

According to The Athletic, he is set to take up the position of technical director with FSG amid a continued restructure.



His return comes after Edwards was also lured back as CEO of Football.

It is claimed that he will be tasked with overseeing the development of players across FSG's 'football operations'.

Richard Hughes will arrive as Liverpool's new sporting director in the summer, with the pair having known each other for over 20 years from their time at Portsmouth.

Pedro Marques is also reportedly set to arrive, alongside Ward on June 1, from Benfica as FSG's director of football development.

Ward was replaced by Jörg Schmadtke after stepping down and is believed to have turned down a number of offers to return to football, but wanted to spend more time with his family.

Liverpool.com says: FSG caught everyone off guard by securing Edwards' services and the return of Ward is as surprising.

He stepped down from his role as sporting director just a year ago but is set to take up a new role within the restructure.
