Liverpool’s attack is one of the best in the world because of their depth, but it may be an issue.

After a summer that saw Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez depart from the club, Arne Slot’s side required reinforcements, and they chose two options that any club would envy.

Hugo Ekitike made his arrival at Anfield first and has already set the Kop alight with two superb strikes and one neat assist to fire the Reds to the top of the table in the first three games of the Premier League season.

While the Frenchman alone may have been enough to satisfy their desire to further increase their output in front of goal, they still decided to sign Alexander Isak as their new No.

In the final hours after a turbulent summer saga, the 25-year-old finally made his way to Merseyside for the British and club record fee of £125 million, which is worth every penny for a proven goal-scorer in the English top flight.

The pair have joined a forward line steeped in talent, with Mohamed Salah on the right-hand side, maintaining his legendary levels of consistency, and Cody Gakpo working hard down the left week in, week out.

This type of depth also presents some challenges for the head coach, who will now have to decide on a starting attack when the Swedish international returns to full fitness.

His full first appearance may be a while yet, considering Slot revealed Isak is expected at full strength in the coming months.

Ekitike mainly plays down the middle, and that will need to be addressed because he and Isak are both more suited to the central position.

An issue that journalist Julien Laurens has identified as difficult for the Liverpool boss to handle.

In an interview with Premier League Friday, the broadcaster explained: “You can always play great players together but they are very similar, Ekitike and Isak.

Isak is a better version to a younger Ekitike obviously, from their size to their skillset, to what they like doing, and the areas where they like playing in they are quite similar.

“So, of course, you can play Ekitike a bit on the left sometimes.

Isak played there when Callum Wilson started there for Newcastle two seasons ago, which can happen.

But that can’t happen in the long term.

“I feel a bit for Ekitike because he signed as the number one, really, and at that time, there was no Isak in the picture.

For now, Ekitike will start, and Isak will come off the bench for an increased amount of minutes, but at some point, Isak will be the number one and Ekitike will sit on the bench.”

It may be a difficult situation to balance both of the forwards in the same team, but with the amount of cup competitions and league games that need to be played, it will be beneficial.

Not only can they be rotated consistently, but their willingness to outperform each other for a spot will push the team forward to glory.

Already, the No.
