Jurgen Klopp can sign 'German Philippe Coutinho' if FSG sanction game-changing Liverpool transfer

Jürgen Klopp has signed players from the Bundesliga surprisingly little during his time at Liverpool so far — only 23 per cent of the arrivals have come from there — but that could very well increase come the summer.

"He is like a German version of Philippe Coutinho.

"But that is not a problem because he is doing things very quickly, very good with the ball, and the Brazilian version is technique and the German version very straight on [and direct].

Thiago Alcântara and Ibrahima Konaté have come from Germany, of course, but before that pair, it was Naby Keïta in 2018 and then three in his first summer at the club in 2016.

It would take a big investment from FSG, and in someone so young it could be deemed a gamble: Liverpool would normally wait a little longer for a teenager costing that sort of sum to prove themselves at a high level for a period of time before committing the money to sign them.

"Jürgen Klopp has a physical, German style in Liverpool and [a move for Wirtz] would work because everything you need, he has already, and of course you can make it better.

Meanwhile, in midfield, Borussia Mönchengladbach's Florian Neuhaus was on the Reds' radar last summer and could be a cheaper alternative to another Bundesliga player, Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham.
