Jurgen Klopp has criticized FIFA and strongly opposed the notion of staging Premier League games in the United States in the future.
The Premier League is encountering fresh pressure for matches to be held overseas, with American television network NBC adamant about organizing two games on US soil during the opening weekend of the season.
Television executives and prominent agents in America are openly advocating for matches like ‘Manchester United vs Chelsea in New York’.
Meanwhile, the Premier League’s chief executive, Richard Masters, recently acknowledged that there appears to be an opening for games from European leagues to be played abroad.
This development is likely welcomed by Premier League officials who have expressed interest in expanding their product to the United States.
However, Klopp is firmly against this idea and the individuals behind it.
When asked about the possibility of transitioning into football administration once his managerial career concludes, Klopp made it clear that he does not support the idea of moving Premier League games overseas.
The Reds boss, who is leaving Anfield at the end of the season, said: “No, I never thought about it, but they will need people in a normal age knowing the business.
“I don’t think I will spend my lifetime on these kinds of things.
“In the end one person cannot put it right as long as all the rest think, “Ah, it will be all right, they earn millions, let them play there.
I don’t think I will do that.”
