Trent Alexander-Arnold will bring a 20 year spell at Liverpool Football Club to an end this summer after agreeing to move to Real Madrid.
It marks the end of a historic journey, that has seen the English right-back rise through the academy and win all there is to win for his boyhood club.
A player who was so important to multiple trophy lifts and the success that Liverpool fans have enjoyed over the last decade, he will be sorely missed by everyone connected to the club.
So missed, that fans have felt betrayed by the move, and very much made their feelings known in Liverpool’s most recent home game against Arsenal.
As Trent Alexander-Arnold entered the pitch for the tiring Conor Bradley in the second half, he was welcomed on to the pitch by a deafening chorus of boos that spread across the ground with fans grabbing that moment to really show Trent what they think of his move to Spain.
An act that has divided opinion and whipped social media into a frenzy, many have argued that it is the fact that a potentially £100m player is leaving for free and that he could’ve left the club with something.
On the other hand, it should never be overlooked just how much he has done for the club during his time at Liverpool.
Being booed in a stadium you adore must have been a gut-wrenching moment for the Scouser, and a moment that he will never forget, as his story at Liverpool does not end the way I am sure he would’ve wished.
The manager who transformed Trent and gave him his opportunity to shine was Jurgen Klopp.
The former Liverpool manager was back in the city yesterday as he visited an event for the LFC Foundation, continuing his work as an ambassador for the charity.
He delivered his opinion on the Trent Alexander-Arnold situation at Liverpool, giving some strong words during his speech to the crowd.
Klopp said: “I am an old man and I don’t waste time in hiding my opinion.
I don’t tell you you should not be disappointed, you should not be angry, I am telling you not to forget.”
“This club does not forget we are famous for not forgetting.
We don’t forget anything, we don’t forget the good thing and we don’t forget the bad thing but we ignore the bad things and we remember the good things and improve as a group.”
“I watched a lot of games and when he came on and I heard the booing [during the Arsenal game].
This is not us.”
“If he wouldn’t have given everything, I would tell you now but every day he gave absolutely everything for this badge.”
Jurgen Klopp formed a strong bond with Trent Alexander-Arnold during his time at Liverpool, watching him grow from an academy graduate to a superstar under his tutelage and you could tell that with this emotionally driven speech.
The German will be present at Anfield tomorrow to witness Liverpool lift the Premier league trophy.
