Jurgen Klopp hailed the performance of Liverpool teenager Tyler Morton, saying the youngster 'did exceptionally well' on his first Champions League appearance on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old started in midfield against Porto and played the whole 90 minutes as the Reds beat the Portuguese side 2-0.

The teenager only made his Premier League debut on Saturday when he came on for the final few minutes of the win over Arsenal, but Klopp felt confident to throw him in from the start in the Champions League.

The German was delighted to see Morton respond with an impressive performance, looking composed alongside Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in midfield.

'He's fit, there's no need to rest him for whatever.

He's a good player and I'm really pleased that he can put a performance like this in.

Before the game Klopp had also praised the bright young star, saying: 'He's a smart kid.
