Few players have had stranger and more up-and-down careers at Liverpool than Naby Keïta.

Signed for £52m from RB Leipzig in 2017 (actually arriving a year later), the hype was built up and up and his reputation soared.

The reality, though, is that Keïta has never managed to be what Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp envisaged him being.

All signs so far point towards a departure for Keïta, with Liverpool needing to find an adequate replacement for a player they once deemed a game-changer.

"Talks with Liverpool will continue, Keïta wants to understand how important he’ll be for Klopp in the future before making his final decision."

Liverpool had shown how desperate they were to bring Keïta to Anfield by bidding around £70m for him (according to BBC Sport), before then agreeing in advance to meet his much lower release clause (which only came into effect 12 months later) on an advanced deal.
