Sometimes, transfers go beyond scouting reports and stats.
Personal ties can be just as important.
In today’s football, who you know can make all the difference — and Jurgen Klopp is someone most clubs would love to have in their corner.
RB Leipzig are trying to build a new era, and they’re doing it with more discipline.
They’ve got a strict contract structure and are clearly aiming for players who will fight for their place.
But signing promising players isn’t just about offering a project.
You need an edge when other teams are circling.
That’s exactly what Leipzig might have — thanks to someone who’s no longer on the touchline, but still very much in the mix.
RB Leipzig are interested in signing Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham this summer.
The 19-year-old has impressed in the Championship, and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed.
Several top clubs are monitoring him, and the race is heating up.
But Leipzig could have an edge over the rest — and it’s Jurgen Klopp.
Now working as Global Sports Director for Red Bull, Klopp is helping Leipzig reshape their squad.
This summer, he’s expected to work closely with the club’s hierarchy.
A big part of that could involve using his long-standing ties with the Bellingham family.
According to SportBILD, “Klopp has a close relationship with the Bellingham family after Liverpool competed with Real Madrid for Jude Bellingham’s signature in 2023.”
Liverpool pushed hard at the time, but he chose Madrid.
Even though the Reds missed out, that process built a bond.
And Klopp still has access to those same connections.
Leipzig may rely on Klopp’s strong relationship with the Bellingham family — built during his push to bring Jude to Liverpool — to help land Jobe this summer.
Leipzig also plan to introduce a new wage structure.
New players will earn 30% less if they don’t meet expectations.
Bonuses will only come with a top-four finish?
“This new system will only apply to new signing or contract renewals,” as per the report.
That policy could scare off some targets.
But if Klopp helps swing Jobe’s decision, Leipzig might land one of the Championship’s brightest young midfielders — with a little help from a man Liverpool fans know very well.
