Jurgen Klopp has expressed his intention to come and watch Liverpool, even if “the next manager doesn’t like having me in the stands.”
These remarks were not made with any animosity towards the incoming boss but rather reflect Klopp’s desire to approach his relationship with Liverpool differently from his previous experiences at Mainz and Dortmund.
The German prepares for his penultimate game at Anfield as Liverpool manager, with Tottenham visiting on Sunday.
The Reds will be eager to bounce back and reignite their title aspirations after a disappointing draw against West Ham United last weekend, where the two clubs settled for a 2-2 stalemate at the London Stadium.
Despite encountering some shaky performances and turbulent results, Liverpool have successfully secured Champions League qualification.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Klopp said: “I called it ‘Liverpool 2.0’.
Liverpool 2.0 doesn’t stop after I leave, it’s just you start again, another project.
“That’s how it is.
From my point of view, an outstanding time.
“It will be super tough not to be part of it anymore in the way I’m part of it now – because I will stay part of it, I will.
“I will come and watch games, and if whoever is the next manager doesn’t like having me in the stands, this time, I couldn’t be bothered.
“I don’t think he will, but it was always a bit [like that] when I was at Mainz – and I was at Dortmund at that time anyway, you don’t go as a Dortmund manager to watch Mainz games.
“Then I was at Dortmund and came to Liverpool, had no time to go to Dortmund – so I will go there and watch football games [too].”
When asked if his decision to leave was made alongside his wife Ulla Sandrock, Klopp said: “The initial decision was not a joint decision.
Yes, there are more important things in life, but if you really care then it’s 24/7.
“I did it for a pretty long time and I knew I couldn’t continue to do it at the standard necessary for a club like Liverpool.”
