Jurgen Klopp was quizzed on Darwin Nunez amid some of the speculation that has been occurring this week.
Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend was somewhat overshadowed by the Uruguayan and his perceived situation at Anfield.
Nunez missed a guilt-edged chance against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend and was seen going straight down the tunnel with some poor bod language after the game.
By the end of the weekend, it had become clear that Darwin Nunez had removed most of his Liverpool-related Instagram stories.
Stories linking the 24-year-old to Barcelona soon emerged, with many Liverpool fans are wondering when we are going to see the Darwin Nunez that made the club fork out £85 million for his services in the summer of 2022.
Now Jurgen Klopp has responded to the ‘speculation’.
What did Jurgen Klopp say about Darwin Nunez?
Speaking in his pre-Aston Villa press conference, the German was quizzed on the reports that came out this week.
Klopp have a strong reply, confirming that there is no internal discussion on Nunez:
“There’s no speculation….
Really tough for a young man.”
“He has big expectations on himself, that’s tough and you just have to go through this – there’s no alternative.”
“We tried to help him with everything we can, but at the end of the day, you have to go through it… it’s part of a footballer’s career.”
“His problem is he’s that so good he’s constantly in these moments.”
“If he’s not as good, he would not be having all these chances and then people will also say ‘oh that’s not great.”
“Because he is that good, he is in the moments where he can finish [chances] off.”
Overall, Nunez has amassed a total of 11 goals in the Premier League, and 18 goals in total.
Nevertheless, he deserves a fresh slate under Arne Slot, and who knows, perhaps the Dutch manager will be able to unlock the enigma that is Darwin Nunez.
