Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has candidly admitted that his side fell short in their performance during the 2-0 Premier League defeat against Merseyside rivals Everton at Goodison Park.
Klopp’s acknowledgment that they were “just not good enough” reflects the team’s disappointment and highlights the need for improvement moving forward.
Jarrad Branthwaite’s first-half goal and a commanding header from Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the break secured Everton’s first Merseyside derby win at home since October 2010.
Despite enjoying substantial possession, Liverpool struggled to break through Everton’s resolute defence, with Jordan Pickford delivering an impressive performance in goal for the Toffees.
As a result, Liverpool couldn’t mount a comeback, and Klopp experienced defeat at Goodison Park in his final Merseyside derby.
“No good thoughts at all.
We played the game, or let it happen, the game Everton wanted.
“Going like that in half-time, each situation we missed gave Everton kind of momentum even more and took away from us.
“I think everybody who is with Everton saw that goal already 20 times or something like that, that’s their routine.
“It’s 2-0, atmosphere here, we played like we played, obviously it was not the most inspired performance of all time.
“I really feel for the people, I’m really sorry for that obviously.
But I will try absolutely everything to make sure we are much more ourselves than we were tonight.”
