Jurgen Klopp believes Arne Slot is the perfect candidate to succeed him at Liverpool and expresses admiration for the Dutchman’s enthusiasm for the role.

The 45-year-old is poised to be appointed as Klopp’s successor at Anfield following the agreement of a compensation package worth up to £9.4m with Feyenoord on Friday night.

Slot’s open desire to take charge at Anfield in recent days has not only garnered Klopp’s approval but also eased his departure from the club this summer.

He has been at the helm of Feyenoord since 2021, and last season he steered the club to its first Eredivisie title since 2017, finishing seven points ahead of PSV Eindhoven.

Although trailing PSV by nine points this term, Slot recently guided the Rotterdam outfit to Dutch Cup success with a 1-0 victory over NEC Nijmegen last weekend.

Speaking to TNT Sports before Liverpool’s Premier League clash with West Ham United on Saturday, Klopp said: “What I like about it first of all is that he says that he really wants to be the manager here.

It’s a sensational club that deserves a manager full of energy, full of knowledge and what he has.

The better the hands the club will be in for the next years, the better it is for me.”

Slot will be joined at Anfield by Sipke Hulshoff, his assistant coach at Feyenoord, as well as Ruben Peeters, their head of performance.

Liverpool’s decision to appoint Slot is believed to be influenced by his attacking style of play, his leadership qualities, and his adeptness at player development.

Slot assumed the role of Feyenoord manager in 2021 and had previously expressed interest in managing in the Premier League when he was linked with Tottenham in 2023.
