Jurgen Klopp reacts to his past statement about not spending £100m on a player, following Florian Wirtz’s arrival.
Wirtz’s arrival has made headlines in the transfer market, as he currently holds the highest transfer fee of £116m in this summer transfer window.
Liverpool ended the long-running transfer saga for Florian Wirtz after talks with Bayer Leverkusen, the German side, had been ongoing since last month.
The Reds finally ended fans’ wait and unveiled the German youngster last week.
The Merseysiders broke their club record to sign the midfielder, and Arne Slot reportedly played a key role in convincing Wirtz to join Liverpool, despite interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
After getting announced by the club, Wirtz also spoke about Arne Slot, saying: “The conversations were always REALLY GOOD.
I can remember the first time, he already showed me some scenes of how we want to play and how I could fit in the team.”
He also added: “He was just telling me that I’m a player he really wants to have in his team and can bring the team a step forward.
I just could imagine it [being] good to be in the team and to make it better because I have to make my performances every week – but I’m here for this.”

Jurgen Klopp reacted to Wirtz’s arrival by saying: “We all agree that we’re talking about a great player here.
He’s an outstanding player who can give any club something great.”
As the former Liverpool boss explained, today’s transfer market is heavily inflated — and if a club needs a top talent like Florian Wirtz, they must be ready to spend over £100m.
The highest transfer fee Liverpool paid during Klopp’s tenure was £85m for Darwin Nunez in 2022, when they signed him from Benfica.
However, Nunez is now reportedly close to leaving the club, with Napoli potentially being his next destination, as per the latest reports.
