Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has commented on Florian Wirtz’s signing and price tag.
After maths of constant updates, Liverpool completed the British record signing of Florian Wirtz last week.
The Reds beat the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid to the German international’s signing.
The 22-year-old has been the best player in Germany over the last two seasons and Liverpool will pay Leverkusen a fixed £100m plus £16m in potential add-ons for his signature.
Liverpool’s £100m outlay on Wirtz has generated much criticism from rival fans, who cite Jürgen Klopp’s previous comments on spendinf that much on players, as a reference from their criticism.
But the former Reds’ boss ha defended the Reds and his previous comments, stating that his old club are simply moving with the times and is delighted to see them flexing their financial muscle in the transfer market.
“We all agree that we are talking about a great player here,” Klopp told German publication Welt.
“know that I once said that I’m out if we pay £100m for a player.
That’s just the way the market is.
“I don’t know for which position Arne has planned for Florian exactly.
He is an outstanding player who can give something big to any club.
“Whether he will make the reigning English champions even better, however, remains to be seen.”
