RB Leipzig are interested in signing Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott this summer, talkSPORT understands.

A move to the German side would reunite the attacking midfielder with Jurgen Klopp, who brought him to his boyhood club as a teen.

Klopp, who is now Red Bull's global sports director, swooped to pluck Elliott for a nominal fee of £4.3million as a 16-year-old in 2019.

Three months later, he made him the then-second youngest debutant in Liverpool's history in an EFL Cup tie at MK Dons.

At the start of the 2021-2022 season, Elliott broke into Klopp's first team, starting each of the first three Premier League matches.

However, a dislocated ankle sustained during a 3-0 win over Leeds hampered his progress, and he has played only bit-part roles since.

During Klopp's last year as Liverpool boss, Elliott made his most appearances for the club in a single campaign (53), while registering four goals and 14 assists in all competitions.

But the bulk of those came as an impact substitute rather than a main start, a decision the German admits he now regrets.

"It's not that I go back and think, 'OK, what did we all do wrong?' But if I regret one thing a little bit, it's that Harvey didn't play often enough maybe,” Klopp said in May 2024.

"Because in a very important, intense period – January, a lot of injuries – he played really good.

He was probably our best player – right wing, right midfield, all these kinds of things.

"Everybody came back and he had minutes here, minutes there, and he didn't start anymore.”

Elliott looked to have made a fresh start at Anfield last summer, earning praise from Klopp's successor, Arne Slot, for his performances in pre-season.

Again, the dreaded injury curse struck during the first international break of last campaign, which sidelined him until December.

By then, Slot was reluctant to disrupt a now-settled starting XI, and Elliott only managed two Premier League starts all season.

Both of which came after Liverpool had already secured the title, which sparked speculation over his long-term future at Anfield.

"It's a situation me and the team have got to have a conversation about, because I'm coming into an age now where I'm 22, I'm going to be 23 next season,” Elliott said.

"I don't really want to be wasting years on my career because it's a short career.

I love the club, I love the fans, the team.

I support them as well.

"But most importantly, it's just about what's best for my career."

Elliott has since been pushed even further down the Reds' pecking order following the club-record arrival of Florian Wirtz.

talkSPORT understands several Premier League clubs are looking at the former Fulham youngster, in addition to RB Leipzig.

Wolves are one of those, and it's believed Liverpool value the 22-year-old in excess of £40million.

That figure may even have increased following Elliott's stunning form for England at the Under-21 Euros in Slovakia.

His brace against the Netherlands on Wednesday confirmed the Young Lions' spot in a second consecutive final.

Elliott, currently has two years remaining on his contract at Anfield, has scored four goals in five appearances at the tournament.
