Trent Alexander-Arnold’s mum was ‘worried’ when Jurgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers, the outgoing Liverpool boss has revealed.
Parents of the club’s academy players were apparently fearful that a foreign manager might not use the young stars.
Alexander-Arnold had turned 17 only weeks prior to Liverpool's surprise decision to axe Rodgers and hire the highly-rated Klopp in October 2015.
While there was plenty of excitement around football over the German's move to the Premier League, there was anxiety among the parents of academy players over whether their sons would be given a chance in the first team.
The parents of Alexander-Arnold need not have worried.
The right-back has made 309 appearances since making his debut a year into Klopp's reign, winning a Premier League and Champions League.
Klopp has revealed that Alexander-Arnold's mum paid him a visit to thank him for his impact at Anfield, and revealed that the parents had actually been concerned following his arrival.
In the ultimate show of faith, Klopp replaced some senior figures with young substitutes late in the game.
Those talents went on to justify their manager’s confidence in them, with Liverpool winning the game 1-0 in extra-time.
That match secured the final trophy of Klopp’s reign, which will come to an end after Sunday’s home match against Wolves.
Liverpool have slipped out of the race to win the Premier League in Klopp’s last season.
