Reds fans were very worried when Jurgen Klopp announced his departure from the club mid-way through the 2023/24 season, with not a single person seeing it coming.
The future looked uncertain and as seen when the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger left their respective clubs after long spells in charge, the transition between managers is far from seamless.
However, Liverpool’s new era under Arne Slot took no time at all to get going and his first season could not really have gone much better, proving just how good the club’s recruitment team is.
As he enters his second season in charge, the Dutchman has some big decisions to make and as things stand, he might end up with the same feeling of regret that Klopp had if he lets a certain player depart Anfield this summer.
However, Klopp still regrets not giving him more opportunities, suggesting Slot should listen back to what he said before making a decision on the 22-year-old’s future.
“It’s not that I go back and think, ‘OK, what did we all do wrong?’ But if I regret one thing a little bit, it’s that Harvey didn’t play often enough maybe,” Klopp said back in May 2024.
“Because in a very important, intense period – January, a lot of injuries – he played really good.
He was probably our best player – right wing, right midfield, all these kinds of things.

“Everybody came back and he had minutes here, minutes there and he didn’t start anymore – [but he] came on, [and made a] big impact.”
Slot gave Elliott just 360 minutes across the entire Premier League season, suggesting he is not as big a fan as Klopp was, although he might come to regret this very soon.
Elliott is wanted by many Premier League clubs and if Slot deems him surplus to requirements, the Englishman should move on in search of regular minutes.
He has continued to shine at the Under 21 European Championships and helped his country reach the final, netting four goals along the way.
His market price will only have increased, putting Liverpool in a much stronger position, but perhaps Slot should think twice before letting him go.
Klopp regretted not playing him, but the Dutchman may feel even worse if he departs and goes on to become a world-beater, something that he is more than capable of doing as well, suggesting a serious rethink needs to happen.
