Before leaving Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp expressed a lingering regret – one that could now play a pivotal role in the club's push to sign Florian Wirtz.
To bridge the gap, a cash-plus-player offer is being explored, with Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah discussed as a possible makeweights.
Both players have struggled for minutes under manager Arne Slot, making a mere six Premier League starts between them in 2024/25.
Elliott, in particular, started just six of Liverpool's 56 matches across all competitions – a stark contrast to the 27 starts he made under Klopp the previous season.

Still, Klopp admitted he "regretted" not starting Elliott more often.
Everybody came back and he had minutes here, minutes there and he didn't start anymore – [but he] came on, [and made a] big impact."
Leverkusen – now managed by former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag – are admirers of both Elliott and Quansah, and are open to a cash-plus-player arrangement.
With Wirtz – their creative heartbeat – on the verge of leaving, the inclusion of an attacking midfielder like Elliott in the deal would be a logical move.

But the 22-year-old Liverpool ace isn't their only midfield target.
Now he's a proper part of the squad."

Quansah has struggled to make the same impression under Slot, and with Liverpool actively pursuing another centre back – with reported interest in Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi, Ajax's Jorrel Hato and RB Leipzig's Castle Lukeba – the 22-year-old could be pushed further down the pecking order this summer.
Still, whether or not a player is included in the deal, Liverpool are widely expected to finalise the signing of Wirtz in the coming weeks.
