Juventus is preparing to appoint a new sporting director with a strong background in English football.
This move comes as the Serie A giants aim to rebuild and return to winning ways after a period of mixed results.
The new executive brings experience managing transfers and squads in some of England’s biggest clubs, including a spell at a major Premier League side that Liverpool fans know well.
The appointment follows the departure of Juventus’ previous sporting director, and the club is eager to inject fresh ideas and expertise into their recruitment strategy.
His history in English football, particularly at Liverpool, makes this a noteworthy signing for both Juventus and fans of the Premier League.
AS confimed on the club’s official website, Damien Comolli is the new General Manager of Juventus.
The statement read, “Juventus welcomes Damien Comolli, who will join the Club in the role of General Manager on 4 June 2025, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer Maurizio Scanavino.”
“A leader with extensive international experience, Damien Comolli brings a strong background enriched with technical, managerial, and strategic competencies, built over more than thirty years at the highest levels of European football.”
“He has held key roles at prestigious clubs such as Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Fenerbahce, and, most recently, Toulouse, where he led the club to the promotion to Ligue 1 and the victory in the Coupe de France.”
Comolli worked at Liverpool from 2010 to 2012 under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group.
His time at Anfield was a mix of highs and lows.
He played a key part in signing Luis Suarez after Fernando Torres’ surprise move to Chelsea, a transfer that proved hugely successful.
But it was another signing that became infamous — his £12 million deal for Jordan Henderson from Sunderland.
His scouting showed Henderson’s ability to create quality chances despite playing for a lower-ranked team, something Liverpool desperately needed.
Now, after leaving Toulouse, Comolli is ready for his next challenge at Juventus.
Liverpool fans will remember him for spotting one of their most successful captains, even if the initial reception was mixed.
As Comolli moves on, it’s clear his vision and decisions have left a lasting mark on Liverpool’s recent history.
