After making his Premier League debut against Arsenal on Saturday, Tyler Morton was handed a first Champions League appearance as Liverpool took on Porto on Wednesday night.

Instead, held back for UEFA Youth League duty with Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s Under-19s team, the duo could have been forgiven for feeling downbeat about missing out on potential first-team minutes.

But it was a different story for his fellow academy graduates Conor Bradley and Owen Beck, who would have been on standby to feature for Jurgen Klopp’s senior side against the Portuguese outfit, as the Reds contend with an ongoing injury crisis and pondered how to approach what was effectively a dead-rubber.

Bradley needed just five minutes to display the pinpoint accuracy that has become the trademark of any young full-back coming through the Liverpool academy, playing the ball back for Dominic Corness to fire the young Reds ahead.

And the former Celta Vigo man even got on the scoresheet shortly before the break, finishing well first-time after Corness played a free-kick back to him.

Kaide Gordon was also on the bench along with Morton, Bradley and Beck against the Gunners at the weekend but, unlike the trio, would have already known he would not be in Klopp’s thinking to face Porto in the Champions League due to UEFA regulations.
