West Ham fans have reacted strongly to a new announcement from the club about summer signing Mads Hermansen following his tough start to life in East London.
The Hammers have been poor in each of their first two league games of the new campaign, with a 3-0 opening day defeat to newly-promoted Sunderland followed up by a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea on Friday (22 August).
Under-fire boss Graham Potter has moved to change his starting goalkeeper this summer after Lukas Fabianski departed the London Stadium at the end of his contract in June.
Mads Hermansen joined West Ham from Leicester City earlier in August for a reported fee of £20million [BBC], and the Denmark international was selected by Potter against both the Black Cats and the Blues, yet failed to impress in either game.
Hermansen was poor against Sunderland as he allowed Wilson Isidor’s shot to go under him to make it 3-0, while he was susceptible from set-pieces against Chelsea and arguably at fault for two goals, so it certainly has not been a dream start so far.

Hermansen was axed from West Ham’s starting lineup against Wolves on Tuesday (26 August), but he could still be set to keep his place in the Premier League as Potter likely looks to stand by his new signing.
The 25-year-old impressed at Leicester in the Championship, and even did well in the top-flight last term despite their dismal campaign, and he has regularly been called up to the Denmark national side over the last few years.

Hermansen has been named in the Danes’ latest squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Scotland and Greece, and the Hammers’ official X account celebrated his call-up with a post of him draped in their flag on Tuesday, saying: “Mads selected for Denmark.”
While the club were supportive of their player, many West Ham fans were not, and the replies to their post were filled with negative comments about his start to life at the the club and how he did not deserve the call-up, with one supporter saying: “Pray for their defenders, he’ll let them down,” while another replied: “Can they keep him there?”
