Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been told to bide his time before making the decision to sack Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim.

Amorim is still under big pressure at Old Trafford, despite a chaotic 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Saturday (20 September) evening.

Man United raced into a two-goal lead following a Robert Sanchez red card, but only just managed to secure all three points after Casemiro was sent off and Trevoh Chalobah halved the deficit for the Blues.

The result leaves the Red Devils 10th in the Premier League table, with just seven points from their first five games of the campaign.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Ratcliffe must give Amorim more time, despite the worrying signs so far this season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that Ratcliffe has to stick with Amorim until the end of the season, to give him a real chance to turn things around.

Man United supporters will hope that their win over Chelsea is the result they needed to kickstart their stuttering campaign.

Wyness added that if the Red Devils sacked Amorim, then they would be in free fall due to their precarious financial position, so Ratcliffe has to hold his nerve and give him time.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “When it gets tough, you’ve really got to hold your nerve.

If there is a knee-jerk reaction and Amorim goes, then United will be in free fall because, financially, things are starting to add up.

“So I would say to Ratcliffe, look, you’ve got to stick with Amorim, you’ve got to give him a proper chance.

You’ve got to be looking at least until Christmas before you start making decisions, even Easter.

And I would say even until the end of the season, you’ve to give him a real go.

I don’t think Ratcliffe is quite prepared to do that yet, and I think he’d be right to stick with Amorim at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Man United have set their sights on Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner if they decide to sack Amorim, sources have told Football Insider.

Glasner has now emerged as an interesting option for the Red Devils, as they prepare for the possibility of sacking their current boss.

Sources say the manager’s contract situation at Crystal Palace has added to the interest in his availability with growing uncertainty about his future in South London.

After leading the Eagles to their first-ever trophy by winning the FA Cup last season, followed by their Community Shield success, he is regarded as one of the top managers in the division.
