Kevin De Bruyne’s wife’s latest action hints at star’s next club

Kevin De Bruyne is on the move this summer.

That much is clear.

The Manchester City playmaker, who has been the engine of Pep Guardiola’s side for the better part of a decade, is entering the final stretch of his time at the Etihad.

Naturally, interest is sky-high.

A player of De Bruyne’s quality, even at 33, doesn’t come around often.

MLS clubs have been watching.

Saudi Pro League sides have made their pitch.

Some Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, are reportedly in the mix.

Then there’s Napoli — the Serie A side hungry to return to the top after a tough season — who reportedly have both Kevin De Bruyne and Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez on their transfer list.

They are reportedly making a push for the Belgian and have one key advantage others don’t.

That advantage has reportedly just gotten stronger, thanks to something off the pitch.

In fact, it wasn’t even Kevin himself — it was his wife.

There’s also been speculation involving Liverpool.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio recently claimed the Reds had made an offer for the Belgian.

But James Pearce of The Athletic shot that down quickly, replying to a fan on X with a firm: “There’s been no offer from Liverpool.”

So, with all these names in the mix, what’s the deciding factor?

Turns out, it might be something more personal than people expected.

Kevin De Bruyne is set to leave Manchester City after being told by director of football Txiki Begiristain and CEO Ferran Soriano that his contract won’t be renewed.

The midfielder has made it clear he still wants to play at a high level.

“Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I’m showing but I understand that clubs have to make decisions,” De Bruyne said last month.

“I’m open for anything (next) because I have to look at the whole picture.”

“I’m looking at sporting reasons, family and everything together and what makes the most sense for me and my family.”

“I still feel like I can play at a good level, but after I’ll have to make a decision once I really know a little bit more,” he added.

That decision may already be taking shape.

Reports from Belgian outlet HLN say De Bruyne’s wife, Michele Lacroix, has been spotted in Naples — house-hunting.

It’s a big hint.

The De Bruynes have history in the area, having tied the knot in nearby Sorrento back in 2017.

Napoli also have another card to play.

Romelu Lukaku, one of De Bruyne’s closest friends and fellow Belgian international, currently plays for the club and is their joint top scorer with 12 goals this season.

Both players are also represented by Roc Nation Sports, which adds another connection.

Dries Mertens, another former teammate and friend, still lives in the region and is set to become an honorary citizen of Naples.

He and his partner attended De Bruyne’s wedding, which only strengthens the personal ties.

De Bruyne has made 36 appearances this season despite injury setbacks, scoring six goals and providing eight assists.

If he joins Napoli, he’ll be replacing class with more class.

With house hunting already in motion, and long-standing personal ties pulling him in, all signs now point to Napoli.
