Manchester United’s move for Bryan Mbeumo could have sparked a transfer exodus which leaves Kevin Schade alone in Brentford’s frontline.

Schade provided an ideal supporting act for Thomas Frank‘s Bees last season, completing a front three which scored 50 Premier League goals between them to provide over 75 per cent of Brentford‘s output.

Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa netted 39 of those goals as Schade chipped in with 11 and a further two assists, though that form hasn’t been enough for the German to add to his four international caps.

Brentford’s summer has been dominated by the big-name sales of Christian Norgaard and Mbeumo, with the latter’s £71million move to Man United finally completed on 21 July after weeks of negotiations.

Mbeumo’s exit could be far from the last at the Gtech Community Stadium this summer though, as Wissa looks to force through his ‘promised’ £30m transfer to Newcastle and refuses to train for Keith Andrews.

Matheus Cunha has featured in three of Man United’s four pre-season matches after his own move from Wolves in June, but Mbeumo was made to wait for his Red Devils debut after that lengthy transfer saga.

The Cameroon international’s first Man United appearance in their final Premier League Summer Series match against Everton on 3 August, which the Red Devils drew 2-2 to end as winners of the tournament.

Mbeumo failed to get on the scoresheet as Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount netted for United in either half, and the 25-year-old posted on Instagram at full-time with a message to the club’s fans.

He said: “US Tour done – Happy to have made my debut with the team.

Thanks fans for the massive support”.

Several Man United players left supportive comments for Mbeumo, while Schade said; “Serious”, giving his thoughts on how Mbeumo looks in a Red Devils jersey.

Football Insider Verdict

The Bees have taken steps to make up for the loss of Mbeumo by signing attacking midfielders Romelle Donovan, Theo Mawene and Antoni Milambo from Birmingham, Preston and Feyenoord respectively.

However, Wissa’s potential departure would leave a huge hole in Brentford’s frontline with less than two weeks until the Premier League returns, and potentially leaves Schade as the only go-to option in attack.

Igor Thiago didn’t make much of an impact during his first season in West London due to injury, but with Brentford expected to “reluctantly accept” an improved bid for Wissa, all eyes will be on the Brazilian and Schade to get the Andrews era off to a strong start.
