Eberechi Eze’s involvement in Crystal Palace’s Europa Conference League play-off tie on Thursday (21 August) evening has been decided amid the potential for his move to Arsenal to fall apart.

Eze’s transfer saga has reached boiling point over the last few days, with the Gunners swooping in to try to get a deal over the line in front of arch-rivals Tottenham.

Spurs fans thought their club had a deal for Eze wrapped up on Tuesday (19 August) after personal terms had been agreed with his camp, with Crystal Palace targeting a number of attacking midfielders to arrive in his place.

Arsenal dramatically hijacked Tottenham’s move for Eze on Wednesday (20 August) evening, however, and he now looks set for the red side of North London after they accelerated a move due to Kai Havertz’s injury concerns.

Eze featured for the Eagles in their Premier League season-opener at Chelsea last weekend, and his involvement in Thursday’s game had always been uncertain prior to Arsenal’s swoop, but now a new development has emerged over whether he will play his last Palace game at Selhurst Park.

Palace’s recent demotion to the Conference League saw them handed a play-off clash against Norwegian side Fredrikstad, with the first-leg to be played at Selhurst Park on Thursday (21 August).

Eze had been expected to feature in Palace’s first ever European game, with his Gunners medical scheduled for Friday (22 August), but The Sun have revealed that he will not be playing any part in South London, and is instead expected to watch on from the stands.

The 27-year-old had reportedly hoped to feature for the Eagles and Oliver Glanser had insisted he would but, with his move to Arsenal now imminent, his participation in the game was deemed as a potential risk to the deal being completed in case he was to get injured.

Any issue ahead of his scheduled Friday medical [The Standard] would put the move in potential jeopardy were he to face time out alongside Havertz.

Football Insider verdict

Eze’s talents know no bounds, and despite him now being 27, it does feel as if he has even more to give and better seasons to come than his most recent impressive effort.

The England international has grown into one of the Premier League’s biggest talents over the last few seasons at Selhurst Park, and the fact he grew up as a Gunners fan made it seem as if he always had his heart set on moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Football Insider revealed in July that Arsenal were prepared to meet Eze’s release clause, while the Eze wanted to join the Gunners, as also revealed by Football Insider last month.

Palace fans will no doubt be disappointed that they are not set to see him in action for their club for one last time, but he will leave with their best wishes as Arsenal try to win the Premier League with him as a key man in attack.
