The biggest story is undoubtedly that of Alexander Isak, who looks likely to join the Reds following Newcastle’s move for Nick Woltemade. But, arguably of even greater importance, is the possibility of Liverpool strengthening their defence before Monday’s 7pm deadline.

Marc Guehi has emerged as Liverpool’s primary target in that respect, but with Crystal Palace standing firm on an asking price, it has been touch and go whether a deal will eventually get done.
According to journalist David Lynch, however, a ‘key condition’ of Guehi’s potential move to Anfield was ticked off on Thursday.

Despite beating Liverpool in the Community Shield earlier this month, Palace have had a slightly rocky summer in the transfer market.
The Eagles have already sold key man Eberechi Eze and have failed to find much success in terms of incomings.

Nevertheless, they also qualified for Europe on Thursday.
Having drawn 0-0 with Norwegian side Fredrikstad, Palace will be playing in the Conference League this season.
And speaking on his YouTube channel, Lynch says this could now free Guehi up to move.
“As with Isak, there’s been another key condition met today [Thursday], because Palace have now got through their Conference League qualifier,” said the reporter.
“They have qualified for the group stage.”

“Glasner had made clear that he was very keen to keep Guehi around for this game to make sure Palace achieved that objective.
They’ve now done that and that openness from Palace to sanction a deal I expect is going to be there.
“Glasner’s tone [after the game] suggests that everyone at Palace wanted to get this game out of the way, get Palace into Europe firmly then go to the table with Liverpool,” Lynch added.
“That pressure will be there for Liverpool to utilise.”
With a transfer to Liverpool dragging on, there were some reports this week that Guehi could join Manchester City instead.
However, according to Lynch, the England international ‘only wants Liverpool’ if he is to leave Palace in the final days of the window.
“The player only wants them [Liverpool],” he said.
