Former Liverpool-linked attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has offered support to his Georgian teammate Giorgi Mamardashvili after he completed his move to the Reds.

The shot-stopper made his debut during Sunday's pre-season friendly against Preston North End as Arne Slot's side capped a first week of preparations with a 3-1 win over the Championship.

The former Valencia goalkeeper made his long-awaited bow for the Premier League champions having signed for Liverpool last summer, ahead of becoming a player this summer.

He will play alongside one of the world's greatest in Alisson Becker and deputised at Deepdale, playing in the first-half before he was replaced by Freddie Woodman.

On Monday, Mamardashvili was officially unveiled as a Liverpool player and performed media duties with the club after joining the club.

Across their social media channels, snippets from his interview were shared on their respective channels and in doing so, the goalkeeper received support from current and former players.

Among them was the PSG star Kvaratskhelia, who had admiration from the Reds prior to his big-money move from Napoli, who liked the post from the Reds social media channel.

The Georgian stars could have been teammates at Anfield after Liverpool registered interest in the winger during the January transfer window.

Ultimately, the forward made the move to the French capital.

"I am happy, I am very excited to be here," the 24-year-old Mamardashvili told the official Liverpool website.

"It's a huge moment for me because joining a club like Liverpool, it's not only a transfer, it's a dream come true for me.

"I feel ready, motivated and proud.

I watched all the games with a different feeling, like I was already part of the team.

"I will never forget this day – when I signed a contract with Liverpool.

So many messages I received and everyone was so happy and excited."

It has been all change in the Liverpool goalkeeping department this summer with Mamardashvili replacing league and cup-winning goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

Meanwhile, Brazil legend Claudio Taffarel and Fabian Otte left the club with Xavi Valero returning to the club.

The 24-year-old will work alongside the experienced coach and Alisson, a goalkeeper the new Liverpool shot-stopper admires.
