Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp inferred Harvey Elliott could be set for a new role after the 18-year-old’s impressive performances in The Reds' opening pre-season friendlies.

Klopp’s side played two short matches in the same evening on Tuesday, taking on Austrian Bundesliga side Wacker Innsbruck and German Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart at their training base in Austria.

“I don't think Harvey had ever played that position for us, but he looked good,” Klopp told LFCTV.

Comment below “Ibou [Konate] did really well and that's what we expected, he looks really good in training,” Klopp added.

“They have looked really good in training and yesterday was the first day where they did very complex things, usually it is either offensive or defensive and stuff like this,” explained Klopp.

Klopp saw an opportunity to experiment, deploying Elliott in a deeper central midfield role.

'We have to get there, step by step, but I don't expect them for Friday.” Do you want an exclusive pre-season preview of YOUR club - both in your inbox and through your letterbox?
